ABOUT MGC
The Multicultural Greek Council at the University of California, San Diego was founded by 5 Greek organizations that still remain a part of the council today. Currently, the council is composed of 17 Greek organizations. The purpose of the Multicultural Greek Council at the University of California, San Diego shall be to create and maintain high standards in the life of fraternities and sororities by addressing, coordinating and developing strategic action plans that unify organizations, promote higher education, provide community services, and enhance leadership. The Multicultural Greek Council also serves as a liaison between the Associated Students, and other administration thereby maintaining open communication and improving the campus climate.
MULTICULTURALISM
As the Multicultural Greek Council here at UCSD, we pride ourselves in the diverse cultures and practices our individual organizations represent. Every Greek chapter within our council possesses a unique and safe space that has provided a home away from home for all our members. Not only do we proudly represent our individual lifestyles and values, we also embrace the diversity that make up our campus with an open mind and heart. The MGC Council adamantly promotes and celebrates the various cultures that exist both within our council and the UCSD campus.
GREEK UNITY
Prior to the formation of the MGC Council, the Multicultural-based Greek Chapters here at UCSD operated and existed on their own. With the establishment of the council, a unique and diverse community was created. We realized that through our unique talents and personalities, we can bring about a greater change to the world we live in. With this combined strength, the Multicultural Greek Council has effected many lives in our community in a positive way. Together our Greek community is a way to get involved in both campus leadership and service, but most importantly we are a family.
PHILANTHROPY
As a Greek community, we focus on giving back to our local community through various services. There is a huge emphasis on service here at UCSD, especially when it comes to each individual chapter. Every member of our council has one or more charities they cater to throughout the year. As a result, there are multiple events every quarter held by each chapter that the Greek community supports as a whole. In addition, the MGC Council comes together every quarter to participate in a Greek-sponsored service event that benefits a great cause and brings our community even closer together.
